First!

Just over a year ago, we purchased a house and moved back to my home town of Atkinson, ME.  The house that we purchased came with 33 acres of wooded land and very well landscaped lawn.  Dotted throughout the lawn are small gardens full of flowers and other decorative foliage.  Our first year here showed us an incredible array of colors that lasted almost right up to the winter.  There always seemed to be something blooming.

Now that we know where (but not always what) everything blooms, I thought it would be interesting to document everything that grows in the yard for an entire season.  As things bloom, I will take pictures and post them up here.  To get started, here are a few of the first thing to come up this year.  I believe they are Crocus.  They really stand out with their bright greens and vibrant purple, especially considering that there is still snow in some of the gardens!
